    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti tahap kompetensi keusahawanan dalam kalangan usahawan teknikal Kontraktor Elektrik Kelas III bertaraf Bumiputera yang melibatkan tahap pengetahuan, sikap, kemahiran dan kreativiti. Keempat-empat aspek tersebut mencakupi tiga belas kompetensi keusahawanan iaitu inisiatif, melihat dan merebut peluang, kecekalan, keupayaan mencari maklumat, menitik beratkan mutu kerja yang tinggi, komitmen terhadap perjanjian kerja, berorientasi ke arah kecekapan, membuat perancangan yang sistematik, menyelesaikan masalah secara kreatif, yakin terhadap keupayaan diri, ketegasan, meyakinkan orang lain dan menggunakan strategi pengaruh. Seramai 40 orang responden iaitu Kontraktor Elektrik kelas III bertaraf Bumiputera di sekitar kawasan Johor Bahru telah terlibat dalam kajian ini. Metodologi yang digunakan ialah berbentuk soalan soal selidik yang terbahagi kepada dua bahagian iaitu bahagian A dan bahagian B. Data-data dikumpul dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian “Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) v14” untuk mencari peratusan dan min bagi mendapatkan hasil kajian. Secara keseluruhan, tahap kompetensi mereka berada pada tahap yang tinggi. Walaupun begitu, terdapat sebahagian dari tiga belas kompetensi keusahawanan yang diabaikan oleh mereka dan perlu diberi penekanan

    The Influence of Teaching Approaches among Technical and Vocational Education Teachers towards Acquisition of Technical Skills in Kano State-Nigeria

    This paper examines the influence of various teaching approaches adopted by teachers of technical subjects in Kano-State of Nigeria, towards the production of competent and skilled graduates for industrial, economic and national development. The teaching methods employed for this study were: Problem Based Method, Context Based Method, Student Centred Method, Demonstration Method, Project Based Method, Lecture Method, Tutorial and Seminars, Fieldwork and Computer Based Method. Two hundred and twenty (220) male and female technical teachers in post-primary schools were used for the study. The findings revealed that, problem based, context based, and fieldwork teaching methods were significant predictors of technical skills among students. A significant difference in the teaching methods among the male and female teachers in six teaching approaches was found while no significant difference was observed in three other teaching approaches.     Faktor-Faktor Yang Mendorong Masyarakat Baba Dan Nyonya Di Bandar Melaka Menceburi Bidang Keusahawanan

    Kajian deskriptif ini dijalankan untuk mengenalpasti faktor-faktor yang mendorong masyarakat Baba dan Nyonya di Bandar Melaka menceburi bidang keusahawanan. Perkaitan dilakukan terhadap empat faktor yang dikhususkan kepada pengaruh faktor latar belakang keluarga, faktor sikap, faktor motivasi, dan faktor kemahiran-kemahiran yang dimiliki oleh usahawan. Instrumen kajian yang dijalankan adalah set soal selidik yang mengandungi 40 item. Skala Likert telah digunakan untuk tujuan pengumpulan data dan set soal selidik tersebut telah diedarkan secara rawak kepada 30 orang usahawan Baba dan Nyonya di sekitar Bandar Melaka. Maklumat-maklumat yang diperolehi kemudiannya dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) versi 12.0 bertujuan untuk mendapatkan nilai min, kekerapan, dan juga peratusan. Daripada dapatan kajian yang diperolehi, nilai min purata menunjukkan bahawa faktor sikap, faktor kemahiran serta faktor motivasi diri berada pada tahap yang tinggi. Cuma faktor latar belakang keluarga berada pada tahap sederhana. Faktor sikap usahawan merupakan faktor pendorong yang terkuat dalam mempengaruhi masyarakat Baba dan Nyonya di Bandar Melaka menceburi bidang keusahawanan.     Development of employability skills assessment tool for manufacturing industry

    Mastering employability skills is one of the global problems which employers are facing with graduates or their future employees. Various research on employability skills have been conducted nationally and internationally and it was found that many technical graduates nowadays are lack of employability skills rather than technical skills. The main goal of this research is to develop an employability skill assessment tool using the Kepner-Tregoe (K-T) method in which weight factor is set. Samples for this research consisted of 107 employers from five types of Malaysian manufacturing industry. The results showed that employers in all five categories of manufacturing industry are in consensus on the importance for all seven of the employability skills. These skills were ranked as follows; interpersonal skills, thinking skills, personal qualities/values, resource skills, system and technology skills, basic skills and informational skills.     Rapid changes are taking place in industry, the labor market, work to work organization. The changes of taking places in industry have an important implication for Vocational Education and Training (VET). These widespread changes have significant implications for the learning requirement of workers and for the pedagogical methods to facilitate that learning. This paper focuses in the learning of instructor, learners in the perspective of their readiness with teaching and learning challenge in VET. Some theoretical consideration in behavioral and cognitive psychology will be discussed derived from the concept of learning content vocational institutions; pedagogical strategies such as demonstration, practice and feedback implemented by the instructors for learning occur. The learners’ preferences based on their characteristics to cater their ability to learn in VET. Learners’ learning styles were investigated to identify their preferences in learning and match with the curriculum and practices in teaching VET. The shift in pedagogical orientation will focus in potential of individual, engage learners in development of their own vocational knowledge and skills.     IDENTIFYING RELATIONSHIP INVOLVING LEARNING STYLES AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS AMONG VOCATIONAL STUDENTS

    The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between students’ learning styles and problem solving skills among students in Building Construction Course at Vocational School. This study also investigated the differences between the students’ type of learning styles and their ability to solve the problem using their creative thinking. A survey was carried out on 68 vocational students in Building Construction Course from two Vocational Schools. Felder-Soloman’s Index of Learning Styles (ILS) and elements of creative thinking in problem solving for Vocational Education were the tools used in this study. Creative thinking in problem solving elements was categorized from the subject specification used in Building Construction curriculum. In brief, the ILS have five dimension; Processing, Perception, Input, Understanding and Perception. The results show that the Input style dominates the learning styles of Building Construction’s students in Vocational School and manipulating idea is the dominant creative thinking elements to solve the problem which students preferred. In conclusion, type of students’ learning styles will influence how they can cater their learning to improve their academic achievement and how they can use their creativity to solve the problem in actual situation in Building Construction work.     Physical environment in school setting: conceptual reviews

    Increasing numbers of educators have begun to believe that the physical environment might have an impact on students' outcomes. There are several research findings indicate that students academic outcomes are affected positively or adversely by the visual, acoustical, and thermal characteristics of the classroom environment (Bowers et al. 1987) such as student behavior (Cash, 1993); attitudes (Weinstein, 1979); and achievement (Cash, 1993; O’Sullivan, 2006); personality development (Roberts and Robins, 2004); student preferences and comfort (Corgnati et al., 2007). Concrete foundation is needed to discuss the circumstances of the physical environment in school setting. The valuable theorists mostly cited as a guidance is person-environment fit theory (Caplan and Van Harrison, 1993). The match between attributes of the person and attributes of the environment reflects the concept of person-environment (PE) fit (Roberts and Robins, 2004).     Innovation is an important element for teaching and learning in ensuring that the product is always relevant to current requirement. In vocational education, there are a lot of innovations should be carried out such as management, administration and facilities. In terms of the national corporation to become an industrialized nation the need for vocational education becomes fundamental. The relationship between teacher’s pedagogy beliefs and students learning style can be seen as one mediated through process whereby teacher’s beliefs influence their teaching strategies which will turn influence student’s learning style. It is therefore important in VET to address teacher’s new teaching methods, vocational skills, knowledge and student’s learning style to make the practices in SVS can fulfill the goal of VET in globalization. This paper is to describe the role of Vocational Education Training (VET) for preparation to produce human capital start from the basis level. VET in Malaysia started in secondary school and for specific purposes Vocational Secondary School (VSS) has been designed to fulfill the needs of future workforce. Teachers are the main factors to have systematic and interesting approach for students and stakeholders to make VET in VSS is the main choice of education to developed student carrier pathways. The focused in this paper is what is the practices in VSS can achieved the current and future workforce in flexible manner and at a consistent level of quality. It also to review what does it mean to teach in VET and what makes an effective VET teacher. The factors consists the approach to teach in VET, role of teachers and VET students preferences.     Faktor-Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Pembangunan Kaum Sikh Dalam Bidang Keusahawanan Di Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur

    Kajian ini dilakukkan bertujuan mengkaji faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pembangunan kaum Sikh dalam bidang keusahawanan di sekitar bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. Terdapat empat aspek yang menjadi fokus dalam kajian ini iaitu factor pengurusan, perkhidmatan, dalaman dan pasaran. Pengkaji menjalankan temuramah dengan kaedah temuramah berstruktur kepada 40 responden yang berdaftar dengan Network of International Sikh Entrepreneurs (NISE). Keputusan kajian dianalisis mengunakkan Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) versi 12.00. Hasil kajian menunjukkan faktor perkhidmatan merupakan faktor yang paling dominan atau pendorong yang paling utama yang mempengaruhi kejayaan usahawan Sikh iaitu bagaimana usahawan memberi perkhidmatan yang memenuhi kehendak dan keperluan pelanggan. Ia diikuti dengan faktor pengurusan yang merangkumi pengurusan kewangan dan pekerja. Namun begitu , sistem aperentis kurang diamalkan oleh usahawan Sikh di mana tidak ramai yang mewarisi perniagaan keluarga. Di samping itu, faktor dalaman yang merangkumi sikap, motivasi dan keyakinan diri yang tinggi juga menjanjikan kejayaan usahawan Sikh. Majoriti usahawan Sikh mengunakkan teknologi e-perniagaan untuk memasarkan produk mereka tetapi terdapat segelintir yang masih mengunakkan kaedah konvensional. Berdasarkan hasil kajian, dicadangkan agar usahawan berfikiran terbuka dalam merebut peluang dan meluaskan perniagaannya di pasaran antarabangsa. Selain itu, mereka haruslah peka terhadap sebarang perubahan dan permintaan pasaran semasa supaya dapat memenuhi kehendak dan keperluan pelanggan. Mereka juga haruslah bersedia menyesuaikan diri dengan perubahan persekitaran agar perniagaan mereka dapat bersaing di pasaran global

    Penyelidikan ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti persepsi pelatih kurang upaya akal terhadap masalah pembelajaran yang dihadapi semasa mengikuti latihan kemahiran vokasional di Taman Sinar Harapan, Cheras. Penyelidikan ini mempunyai lima objektif iaitu untuk mengenalpasti pandangan pelatih kurang upaya akal terhadap masalah pembelajaran dari aspek penghargaan kendiri, kurikulum latihan kemahiran vokasional, kemudahan pembelajaran dan sokongan daripada masyarakat (ibu bapa, tenaga pengajar). Bagi objektif kelima, ianya adalah bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti pandangan pelatih kurang upaya akal terhadap masalah pembelajaran yang dihadapi semasa mengikuti latihan kemahiran vokasional mengikut jantina. Instrumen digunakan dalam penyelidikan deskriptif ini adalah berbentuk soal selidik. Soal selidik ini dibahagikan kepada dua bahagian. Bahagian A mengandungi 4 item berkenaan latarbelakang pelatih. Bahagian B mengandungi 25 item berkenaan masalah pembelajaran yang dihadapi semasa mengikuti latihan kemahiran vokasional di institusi ini. Item-item ini dibina berdasarkan soalan kajian. Keesahan soal selidik diperolehi melalui pengesahan daripada pakar dalam bidang ini. Data terkumpul diuji secara manual iaitu menggunakan Microsoft Word 2007 dan ianya dipersembahkan dalam bentuk jadual kekerapan dan peratusan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa pelatih kurang upaya akal tidak mempunyai masalah pembelajaran dari aspek kurikulum latihan kemahiran vokasional, kemudahan pembelajaran dan sokongan daripada masyarakat (ibu bapa, tenaga pengajar) dengan peratusan pada tahap tinggi iaitu sebanyak 75 peratus, 83 peratus dan 81.43 peratus. Para pelatih juga tidak mempunyai masalah pembelajaran bagi aspek penghargaan kendiri tetapi peratusannya berada pada tahap sederhana iaitu sebanyak 61.43 peratus
